Oh Mercy Seat

Oh, Mercy Seat! Triumphing over judgments’ own decree

Thou  font of Glory for such a wretch as me.

Oh unending Love, not one jot or tittle of the law is parsed,

Notwithstanding, shame demanding, Violence ready at the door;

Desist! You say, ‘No More!’

It is finished, it has been DONE, all sin has lost and Love has won!

Oh Manifest Wisdom, Oh Purest Light, it is your Fight,

And I your reward.

What happenstance that I should stumble

Upon a cache of unearthly treasure such as this?

Unromanced and filthy robes of righteousness

Foul the air.

But You have Spoken

You declare that I am lifted up, no longer broken.

Mercy’s Lamb, Oh Great I AM,

release the favor you’ve given

That I might see Your Love for me,

That we would have the Unity

You asked of the Father

that Holy Night that You became the Torch for me.

No self-respect can stand before Your Love

Before the world was known

You’ve shown Yourself a spectacle

For all to see

On account of me,

You died in Purity.

The test, the press, the Garden scene

Where torch and weapon came

You burned the brighter,

Your Love the Flame

That lit the night of death’s own grasp

When breathed it’s sorry, wicked last.

That night, You stayed, You drank the cup

That was given

So my own soul could be welcomed to

The land of the Joyous Living!

Oh Mercy Me, fall on my knees

To Him who brings from heaven

My Life, My Song, My Saviors’ own

Blessed Wondrous Leaven!

And I know My Redeemer Lives!

And I shall see Him on that day

When He beckons me to His mercy seat

and forever I am safe!
